Ties That Bind – Looking Back and Looking Ahead for the Nikkei Community

It has been 20 years since an historic gathering took place at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo in April 1998 when 400 participants gathered for the first “Ties That Bind (TTB)” conference.

According to Bill Watanabe, former executive director of the Little Tokyo Service Center, “Back in 1998, there was a lot of attention given to that fact we were moving into a new century, even a new millennium, and it became a time for our JA community to take stock in discerning what is the future of Little Tokyo and our Nikkei community.
